Judah the Lion Takes On Cranio

Hi, my name is Candice. I'm Mom to Judah the Lion and this is our story.

 

Judah was born with a rare genetic syndrome called Muenke Syndrome. His genetic code switched two letters at birth. As a result of that switch, Judah has bicoronal craniosynostosis, epilepsy, differentiated facial features and several other fun little quirks we get to discover as we go along. Craniosynostosis is the early closing of suture lines in the skull. Judah will have to have a surgery this September to correct this. He will undergo a CVR, a cranial vault reconstruction, specifically a Fronto-Orbital Advancement. This procedure will give his brain the room it needs to grow and give him some much needed protection for his eyes.

 

To be clear, his surgery will be covered by his insurance. Hooray! Our family is raising money for expenses related to his surgery and recovery. Some examples of what this money will be going towards are travel expenses, since he will be having his surgery and all follow up's out of state at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, OH; food expenses for the week we are in the hospital and once we get home to recover; surgery-related purchases like warm zip-up onesies while he is inpatient; and safety measures like Clorox wipes, antibacterial hand spray, 'no touching' signs for him post-surgery, and syringes. And maybe coffee for mom and dad.

 

We have already received so much love and support and we are BEYOND GRATEFUL for our family and our community. We have never been without a village and we are blessed  by people who have cared for us and carried us through! We have seen the hand of God.

 

Judah's life is no mistake. God made him with a purpose and a plan and it has been a privilege to be a small part of his story. Thank you for being with us on this journey. Thank you for writing love and joy in the midst of what was a very sad story. We are so glad we serve a God who turns mourning into dancing, sorrow into joy.
