Odyssey of the Mind World Competition in Iowa

Odyssey of the Mind is a fantastic organization that combines theater and problem solving with a creative twist. The teams work together to create scripts, build sets, design costumes, and think outside the box.  Teams have competed in Odyssey for over 30 years!

This team of juniors (Ellie, Leah, Ava, Amanda and Jenna) is heading to the Worlds Tournament at Iowa State University at the end of May.  After taking 1st place at the Regional Showcase and 1st place at the Southern California State Tournament, they are so excited to represent Westview on the Worlds stage with 4,000 students from around the globe.

 

Since November, this team has worked to create a humorous and crazy skit where a circus and movie set blend together and come to life. Where a clown “loses” his head, a crustacean-like creature vows to rule the world, and an action-adventure character plays both the hero and the damsel in distress.  A child is swept into this “Circus Production” and becomes an unwilling character in this unusual action flick with a movie director who demands perfection.

 

Covid has interrupted the regular Odyssey season for the last two years, but this team stuck with it and is so happy to perform in person once again.  They are incredibly excited to advance to Worlds, where they will stay on the campus of Iowa State, watch teams from other states and countries, be a buddy or mentor group to younger teams and enjoy this fabulous experience.

 

As you can imagine, getting this team to Iowa will be very costly.  Flights, lodging, transportation, and meal plans can add up.  Any donation you can make to help this hard-working, creative team of Westview juniors is greatly appreciated.
