The Journey to Recovery
The story of Juan can be easily summarized with two words: Courage and Determination. Less than 5 months ago we received the devastating news that Juan had been in a terrible car accident and was airlifted to the trauma unit of St. Mary’s Medical Center. The prognosis given at the time was the worst parent’s nightmare: “If he survives, the doctors said, he will not be able to walk or move any of his extremities and will be kept on a respirator for the rest of his life”. Two days later Juan had some complications and once again, the doctors suggested he be taken off life support.
What the doctors didn’t know was they were dealing with a special kind of patient. One that is a son of God, one whom God has filled with courage and determination, and one who is willing to fight against all odds to show the world that he is going to walk out of that bed no matter what the doctors said!
A lot has happened over the course of these last five months:
1. Juan made a full respiratory and pulmonary recovery.
2. Juan can breathe on his own, and the tracheostomy has sealed completely.
3. Juan has some mobility of his extremities (both upper and lower).
We are not done yet! There is still a lot ahead of Juan! From the bottom of their hearts, Juan and his family, want to thank the generosity of all of those who contributed toward Juan’s phase 1 of recovery. This help was instrumental in getting Juan to the point where he is today. For those who provided the much needed support when needed, our hearts pour out to you as well ❤.
Phase 2 of Juan’s recovery will consist of intensive (and costly) therapy that will make Juan reach his long dreamt goal: to rise and walk again.
This campaign is intended to help Juan reach his goal, and as before, we ask for your generosity. Juan deserves a second chance at living the life of a young adult full of dreams, and his quest to share his story with generations to come. LET’S MAKE THAT DREAM A REALITY!! You can make the difference, let’s all help, keeping in mind that tomorrow we might be doing this for a close loved one...
