Friday night (1/20) I went with Natalie to the ER in Canton concerned about some severe tooth pain she was having with swelling because she was too nervous to wait until her dentist appointment on Monday. While we were there, we pointed out some random bruising on her legs which did not happen from any trauma. This compelled the doctors to run some blood work and more blood work and more blood work. They told us we were staying overnight due to some abnormal suspicious findings. The next day we were put in a room in the oncology unit for the entire weekend with word of possible leukemia.. Fast forward to Monday morning, Natalie was transferred by ambulance to the Bone Marrow Unit at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute in Atlanta. And here we go….Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Since we’ve been on the 4th floor of this east side gold tower, Natalie’s room has been a nonstop revolving door (and not because she’s so cute), but because of multiple CT scans, a bone marrow biopsy, echocardiogram, EKG, inserting PICC lines, SO MANY blood cultures, medication distribution, vital checks, potassium drips, antibiotics, platelet transfusions and even getting put under to get THREE teeth removed (the original reason we came here). Did you know leukemia effects your oral health? I didn’t. Anyway, we’re about to embark on a definite 4-6 month chemotherapy journey that we’re hoping allows her to avoid needing a bone marrow transplant (which could need another full 6 month recovery with 24/7 care). Thankfully, the hospital’s foundation has significantly helped with her applying for medical expenses so far. However, she cannot work and she cannot drive for 4-6 months. She has no source of income. She will be in the hospital through out all of this. It would be nice to know we have a place to come home to when this is over. Anything we raise here will allow us to not completely lose our home (her rent + utilities through these months), lose her cell phone, lose her ability to pay for her new kitten’s needs, feed herself and be able to get back on her feet once this treatment is over. So far we’ve done all we can to minimize her expenses. Remember even $10 will help alleviate her financial stress so she can strictly focus on beating this. Thank you ❤️
