Love is stronger than cancer
“My last place finishes didn’t stop her from cheering me on every cross country meet.”
-Her youngest kid, Sebastian.
Joyce doesn’t forget. Birthdays cover her calendar. She rarely needs to ask someone’s name a second time. The holed socks you can’t remember telling her about will show up brand new under the Christmas tree. She does forgive. Judgment doesn’t come to her with the ease it does others. Her polite smiles and calm understanding soothe strong emotions. Her empathy turns words spoken in anger into regrets. The love Joyce knows is rare. At her work, most of her coworkers dislike her days off.
Our wonderful friend, Joyce Ehlke was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. For those of you who know her, you know that she is an extraordinary human being. She is cheerful, loving, unbelievably strong and always puts her friends and family before herself. And for those of you who don’t know her, we would like to share her story.
Joyce will be undergoing a series of chemotherapy treatments and further treatments once she is strong enough. She is a single parent and has 3 wonderful children, and 2 lovable and sweet cats. Joyce loves the outdoors and is often outside walking, running, or gardening.
Because of the upcoming treatments, she will be unable to work full time and at some point will likely not be able to return to work full time for a while. Unfortunately Joyce does not qualify for FMLA as she started a new job only a few months ago. Some of her medical expenses are not covered, and with the everyday necessities of life, money is getting tighter and tighter.
In the years we have known Joyce, she is one of the most selfless, loving and caring people we have ever known and is always there to give her love and support or the shirt off her back to anyone that needs it. Her love for her family and friends is unconditional and inspiring. Now, it's time that we send back some of that love and support to Joyce. Anything you can donate will be truly appreciated. Everything we can do to help and surround her with love is what is most important so she can focus on beating this disease. Please spread the word. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
