Jackie’s ECMO & Covid-19 Recovery

My name is Katherine Barrera and I am fundraising for my family due to a severe crisis they are facing.

On Saturday January 8, 2022, my cousin Jackie Tovar was taken by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center after suffering a seizure due to complications from Covid-19.

Her lungs became compromised and she was put on a ventilator.

On January 11, she was transferred to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, Tx in order to have access to ECMO, if needed.

Over the next week, her condition did not improve as doctors had hoped.

On January 17, she was put on ECMO life support.

Due to Covid-19 protocols, no one can visit or be with her.

The doctors have explained that on ECMO, Jackie has a 50-60% chance of making it.

We have had no choice but to leave Jackie completely in the hands of God and the doctors in Houston.

She has a 4 year old son Benji and a 5 year old daughter Camila.

Jackie’s husband Saul, along with her parents and siblings need our help right now.

Two days before she was taken by ambulance, her brother Isai was also taken by ambulance and put in ICU on a ventilator.

This has been a nightmare for everyone.

We never expected to be in a position to ask for help but based on everything that has happened and is happening we know that this is going to have a big financial impact on Saul and the kids.

There have been many people asking to help and I hope you know that we appreciate everything but especially the prayers.

We must remain strong in the Lord.
