Hello everyone,
My name is Amber Aki Huang.
I'm making this gofundme on behalf of my husband, Peter Han.
We're generally pretty private with our personal lives online, however, Peter recently was diagnosed with a rare Autoimmune Disease called Miller Fisher Syndrome. It's a one in a million chance kind of rare.
It was a very sudden appearance of symptoms and became debilitating very quickly.
Peter's case was that he woke up on Sunday (6/15) with double vision (for far away objects) and numbness all over his body. He got checked out at the ER and by Monday, it had progressed to where he could not focus on objects farther than a foot from him and his body is consistently numb in areas.
He was in and out of ER, doing mulitple CT and MRI scans from Sunday to Tuesday (6/15 - 6/17).
He was admitted into LA Medical Center by Tuesday (6/17) evening. We've been staying at the hospital since then.
For Peter, the MFS caused nerve paralysis around his eyes (hence the double vision). His right eye is more affected than his left. Because the neurology team was able to diagnose Peter early, he was able to get treated with an antigen IV infusion called IVIG over four days.
However, recovery (as we've been told) is a lengthy and slow process. Even seeing any improvements of nerve function can take weeks to a month. The full recovery can then take anywhere from 2 months to 6 months.
Due to the symptoms of MFS, it's frusting for Peter because he is now unable to work or draw. It takes a lot of energy to even focus his eyes in the areas that he can see and also causes dizziness/migraines.
I'd like to create this gofundme to take some of the finacial strain off of Peter as he recovers. He really gives his all in everything that he does (teaching/drawing/being there for family). Any amount or shares would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much.
