Help Lay Our Father To Rest
Donation protected
Hi, we are Liatu and Mary trying to fundraise money for our father, David King's burial. Our father was a single dad of 5 girls, and the financial responsibility and funeral arrangements have fallen onto us. David had recently relocated to Birmingham, Alabama less than a year ago for a job at University of Alabama, Birmingham as a line cook but also a frequent patient at their hospital for care. He was 53 years young with a defibrillator in his heart. Last Tuesday, when we were not able to contact our father, we knew something was wrong. Liatu and Mary are on opposite sides of the country right now for school in Southern California and in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. We called the police for a welfare check and a day later, we got a call from the Deputy Coroner that he was pronounced dead at his home-- of natural causes. Unsatisfied with that answer we seek peace of mind and are planning to conduct an autopsy report in Alabama before bringing him back home to our hometowns in Washington, DC. As we are both out of state in school it has taken a toll on us trying to finance the cost of transporting him from the coroner's office to the morgue for autopsy, and then across state lines to D.C. for a proper burial. Again our father was a single dad of 5 girls, Liatu and Mary being the oldest two and the one following directly after us graduating High School this spring. Liatu is also graduating from her university this April, with his 2 youngest being in middle school. We were all planning to reunite for such occasion. He was a deaf man who tried his best whenever he could and his love for his daughters showed no mercy. If it weren't for his constant checking up on us, we would have never known he had passed for days or weeks later. We thank God we knew immediately. We want to do our best by him, figure out his suspicious cause of death and be able to come together for him, as this is what he would have liked and wanted for his little girls. We understand the big ask of us, but with your help, we can have the most proper send off. He also had siblings back home in Nigeria who we would at least like one to be able to come witness his funeral. We ask both our deaf and hearing communities to come together, and help lay our father to rest. Thank you.
