HELP CHILDREN IN OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM ATTEND SCHOOL THIS FALL!
In Mexico, public school is free, but every child is given a list of supplies that they need to purchase before they can attend their first day of class. These lists are extensive and include things like:
Backpacks
Shoes
School uniforms
Lined notebooks
Graph lined notebooks
Stationery (pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, scissors, folders, rulers, and pencil cases)
The estimated cost per child is $140 for a school year for just their supplies (not clothes, shoes or transportation). Many families in our community earn $60 or less a week and have more than one child. Because they cannot afford these supplies, their children do not attend public school.
To address the education gap at the US-Mexico border, Mision de Caridad began a free education program in April 2022. However, this is only meant to be supplementary. Our goal is for children in our community to be enrolled in school and to graduate.
Sadly, only 30% of the children currently in our program are enrolled in public school for this fall.
Will you help us ensure that ALL 30 kids in our program are ready for the coming school year?
Thank you for your support. Any amount makes a difference!
