Colon cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths among both men and women. Early detection is the best hope for increasing one’s chances of survival. Although early detection gives us a greater since of hope in our survival, the costs that accompany treatment including surgery, hospital stays, chemo/radiation treatment as well as post-op care are tremendous.
On November 22 2021, after a colonoscopy was performed a large mass was found in Kevin’s sigmoid colon. A biopsy was performed and sent to
pathology and results revealed Adenocarcinoma of the colon, also known as colon cancer. Kevin was immediately scheduled to see a Colorectal surgeon where he was told that surgery to remove the mass was imminent.
On February 17, 2022, Kevin was admitted in the hospital and had Left Hemicolectomy surgery to remove the mass from his sigmoid colon and to reattach the colon back together. The mass was sent to pathology and it was later revealed that he has Stage IIIB Colon cancer.
Although Kevin was fortunate enough to have his cancer detected fairly early and have the surgery to remove the mass, the costs associated with said surgery and 3-day hospital stay are overwhelming and that’s before post-surgery care, chemo/radiation therapy, follow-up appointments, transportation to and from those appointments, groceries that will be needed for his special dietary needs, as well as his everyday living expenses.
Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Your support and generosity will give Kevin the opportunity to overcome new challenges he may face and to focus on his road to recovery one day at a time.
