Meet Ranger who's name was chosen for the wide spaces he covered while on the run for approximately 6 weeks.  Sightings were sporadic and covered an extremely large area.  One person had witnessed him being chased by a cougar at one point. How he survived 6 weeks in the bush is nothing shy of a miracle.

Ranger was first spotted roaming on September 24, 2020 but finally on Wednesday November 4, 2020 Ranger was too injured to carry on. When the trap was set, he knew it was time to be where he could get the much needed Medical attention he desperately needs. Within an hour of the trap being set, searchers were alerted that it had been tripped.  Finally, Ranger had been caught! Countless exhausting hours looking for him in all kinds of weather. 6 weeks of following up on every sighting, 6 weeks of walking, searching and hoping had finally come to an end! Ranger was alive, severely injured but Alive!

Ranger was brought into care on the evening of November 4th. Upon intake he was unable to bear weight on his right hind leg.  It was clear from his visible ribs, spine, hip bones and wrinkled skin, that this big boy had lost a considerable amount of weight (estimated 30lbs) .  He was given food, water and pain meds while he waited to see the vet.

On November 5 he was taken in to RainTree vet in Comox where he was given a once over, along with X-rays to determine the extend of his injuries.  Ranger was found to have a broken femur and will require immediate surgery to repair.  He is at this time waiting surgery and following that he will need approx  8 weeks recovery and rehab before being ready to go to a home.

Rangers vet bills are estimated to run around $10,000. These numbers do not include rehab for this lovely young boy.  If you are not comfortable donating through gofundme, please contact Tamara Meggitt from Gunnars Place to make other arrangements.

From all those that searched day and night and for those that will continue on his road to recovery, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Ranger thanks you as well.

Should there be excess funds raised, money will go to helping other dogs like Ranger.
