This is my smiley niece from Northfield, CT, Sarah Scully, who is only 11 years old. She is a 6th grade student at Litchfield Intermediate School. She finds it difficult to smile these days after being diagnosed recently with aplastic anemia. Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. Next month she will be admitted to Boston Children's Hospital where she will begin treatment. She is facing chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant and a long recovery road ahead of her. This will not only take an emotional toll on her parents and older sister, but also a financial one. While her mother remains with her in Boston her father, a Bristol firefighter and Thomaston volunteer fireman, will be trying to work when he can while taking care of Sarah's 13 year old sister,Michaela, and keeping the household running. Any donation will help this family service their needs in the coming months ahead including food, cleaning, medical bills, gas, etc. Any burden that can be lifted off this family will only help them support Sarah and try to keep that smile on her face!
