Hi my name is James McAllister Jr but I go by Jay. At the age of 39 I was diagnosed with heart failure that was the result of a gene mutation I knew nothing about. After I was diagnosed things quickly escalated a month later to the point of almost dying twice while in the hospital. The amazing doctors saved my life and put in the LVAD which is a heart pump because my heart couldn’t do its job. After a 3 month stay I was able to go home and on the road to recovery. This entails physical therapy because I got guillain barre which paralyzed me from the waist down originally and now it’s only from the knees down. I also had a lot of atrophy all over. So not only have I had to learn how to walk with paralysis but I’ve had to rebuild my strength. All of this my family and I were unprepared for. I went from being the bread winner to being disabled. The ultimate goal is to get a new heart. The only problem is that the medicines I will have to take are very expensive and insurance will only pay 80%. The Georgia transplant foundation will match what I fundraise up to $10,000 to help cover the 20%. After transplant I will have to take these anti rejection immunosuppressant drugs for the rest of my life. Anything you can donate is very much appreciated. Thank you, much love, and God bless.
