As you may or may not know, our best friend and neighborhood JR has been battling late-stage 4 cancer for about a year and a half now in West Palm Beach, Florida. His treatments are 50 hours, bi-weekly- which means he has incurred over 1400 hours in chemotherapy to date. He is continuing to battle so that he can enjoy life with his family, friends, and lovely fiance. While his family is certainly not asking for anything financially, I made it clear to him that (pride aside) he has plenty of people in his corner right now.
Given the urgency of JR’s condition, he is looking to relocate BACK TO NY and rent a home near his parents and friends. Here he will CONTINUE his ongoing battle and incur the same extensive treatments. Moving is not cheap; neither are his treatments, mounting medical costs, and lack of upward mobility within the law profession due to his disabled state (he will remain on disability stuck on his 2020 salary for the rest of his life). It has become clear these costs may never end. JR’s concern is bleeding his family dry and leaving his fiance with debt. Instead, I have urged him not to worry about the finances, as I am confident there is an entire community of people prepared to help him (like he has helped so many of us in the past).
Although fatigued, our boy is a ninja and a fighter! I know he is too prideful to ask himself, but a monetary contribution to his move and future would relieve so much of the anxiety I know he has from relying so heavily on his family. JR has always been one to donate, give generous gifts, and do pro bono work within his profession. I see no better way to give back to him than to assist him in his time of need.
As most of you know, he is an incredible friend, brother, son, and uncle of 4! I ask that you share this gofundme and help him live his best life in NY - where we will all be able to spend much more time with our pal.
Lastly, after talking to a reluctant JR, he has reassured me that in the event this gofundme exceeds his monetary needs (which of course are to be determined), he has made me promise that we donate the excess to COLON CANCER RESEARCH. Of course, we will cross that bridge when we get there.
