This November I’m getting top surgery, a life-changing step in my transition that will finally let me feel at home in my body. I need help covering the costs so I can recover safely without going into debt.

For those of you who don’t know me, I'm an artist and fabricator from Chicago. I live with my partner, Micah, and our three cats (Pugsley, Trap, and Paxton). Both Micah and I are chronically ill. We care for each other daily, so my recovery will mean extra strain on both of us.

I've saved $1,200, but my job doesn't offer paid leave and recovery will take eight weeks. On top of surgery costs, my chronic illness requires ongoing expenses like medical debt, vitamins, and over-the counter supplies that make daily life manageable.

I've quietly questioned my gender for as long as I can remember and I am so relieved that I’ve finally begun transitioning with the encouragement and support of my friends and family (I love you all). HRT has made me happier than ever and top surgery is the next step to aligning my body to my sense of self.
