Support Christina's Recovery Journey

Talofa lava, my name is Christina Fa’afetai Saau. The reason for this GoFundMe is to help with medical expenses to assist my mom (Taresa) in caring for me until I am back on my feet again and doing everything on my own.

First off, the reason for all of this is due to an accident that occurred on May 17th of this year. As I was walking my dog Wally, I was on my scooter and I was trying to get over to the other side that Wally was on. I was unable to get over the slope of the sidewalk due to the position that my scooter was in, and I thought that I was able to do it until my scooter was unbalanced and I fell backwards and out of my scooter, injuring my back and not knowing that I broke it. On May 21st, I had a major back surgery of my T10-T12. The doctors had to put a metal rod on my right side of my back.

After being in the hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center, I was then transferred to a rehabilitation center called Citadel. I was there from May 29th to July 3rd.

At this facility, I was placed with strenuous physical therapy and trying to make me mobile again. But I was unable to do some things that they were asking of me, and I would cry a lot due to the pain in my back. During my stay, there were times that I made it known to the nurse and doctors that I was unable to feel my BM nor my urine, but they played it on deaf ears and still cared for me until I was discharged to another facility on July 3rd.

There, I was transferred to Sandwich Post Acute Care Rehabilitation Center with no physical therapy for 3 full weeks. I was just laying in bed, and yet I made it known to the nurse that I was unable to feel my BM nor my urine, and there too it went on deaf ears and they still were trying to care for me. At this facility, I was not given any physical therapy because they needed to be paid first before giving care.

On July 18th of this year, I went to my doctor’s appointment to see how my incision of my back surgery went, and that’s when I let them know of what happened while I was at both rehabilitation facilities. She made a decision for me to be transferred back to the ER at Banner Desert to see what was going on. There, they took more tests and the test results came back that I had a spinal cord injury on top of my broken back.

After being there for 1 week and a half, I was then transferred to yet another rehabilitation center called Monticito from July 29th until I left on August 21st to be moved back home so that I could be cared for by my mom.

Now that I am back after being in rehab for the past 4 months and me not working, we are just one income again. Please, I am not the one to ask for anything, but at this time I am.
