Dear Family and Friends,
In late September, Jeremiah became ill with what we suspected to be a common stomach bug. It lingered for a few weeks with little change. The first weekend of October the illness progressed and it became clear that he needed to seek medical attention.
Shortly after being evaluated he was diagnosed with viral meningitis (an infection of the nervous system). We immediately understood how serious this was and aggressive treatment was initiated.
Despite the medical team's best efforts, the infection progressed, Jer's health deteriorated and he slipped into unconsciousness. On Wednesday, October 5th, the neurology team informed us that the virus had caused significant damage to his nervous system. Barring a miracle he would never be the same.
Thankfully, Jeremiah and Shirley had many lengthy conversations about end of life situations. Jeremiah was clear that he did not want to be sustained artificially. After continued treatment and evaluation, Jer’s condition continued to decline. The decision was made to remove life support on the night of Friday, October 7th. Jer’s body fought on for two more days. He went to be with the Lord at 5:45 PM on Sunday, October 9th. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his three-year-old daughter Shannon and his five-month-old daughter Janice.
We mourn the loss of such a wonderful man but are at peace knowing he is now with his savior in paradise.
With Jer’s extensive medical history, Jeremiah and Shirley prepared themselves as much as possible for a situation like this. But any additional help is greatly appreciated.
The Lord will provide as He always does and we will do more than survive this difficult time.
With thanks from-
