Educate a child, and change a community.

Why do we need your help? Only a small fraction of the students at Samaritan International School can pay their tuition. Not one student is turned away. The laws in Rwanda specify that school children must wear uniforms. Most of these children cannot afford shoes, much less uniforms. Fatier will purchase uniforms for every single student on credit. The teachers need to be paid for the miraculous work that they are doing.

This school is doing incredible things for the community and we want to help these children continue on their journey towards a better life. Please read our story below.

The rural town of Kigali, in Rwanda has seen its share of devastation and heartache. Many of the residents were the victims of horrific crimes against them during the  genocide. Mass murder and blatant disregard for life created many orphans and abject poverty. The effects of that genocide years ago have continued to plague this community with a lack of resources and basic comforts like electricity and clean water. Schools and education were only for the affluent families. 

A wonderful woman named Kabasinga Fatier,  with a strong vision and purpose decided to change the stars of her community.  She knew that education was the key to success and the way to a better life for the future of Kigali.  She started teaching a few children in her home. Word spread and kids began showing up at her door, yearning to learn. Fatier could not turn these bright, and earnest faces away. Soon she had to rent out a building and ask for volunteers to help her teach. Eventually her numbers grew so large that she began to look for a place to build a new school. She applied for a grant and the Japanese Government built a beautiful new building to educated her ever growing student body. Fatier has hired teachers and custodians to feed the children. Some days the meals at school will be the only ones they get.
