My name is Marylin Garcia. My sister Mary passed away last year, and home was left to her son Freddy and his daughter Jasmine Jaramillo. They were both transitioning into the home from their previous home-a small trailer with their two cats-after having removed and donating much of Mary's belongings.

At 6AM on April 3rd, a neighbor called the fire department after having seen that the home was on fire. Freddy later called me, frantic that his mother’s home was on fire. I got up and got dressed as quickly as I could, and when I arrived, the firefighters stopped me on my track's and would not let me go near the house. We stood and helplessly watched, in tears, as their house burned.

Freddy is a single father who, despite being disabled and without the usage of his right arm, works incredibly hard every day to support his daughter. After having lost his mother suddenly last year, this fire has made this struggle even more difficult, and has taken almost everything she left the two of them, and everything they moved into the home. Despite this difficulty, Freddy and Jasmine remain kind, compassionate, selfless individuals who—without ever asking for anything in return—always help those who need it. 

Aside from memories, all of their furniture has been destroyed, including their beds, clothing, pictures and important paperwork. What little is left is so smoke and water damaged from the fire that it is unusable or unhealthy to keep. We appreciate any and all help to rebuild and make sure this father and daughter who do so much for so many others can have the home that they deserve, and can treasure  some of the old memories while making new ones!
