My name is Priscilla Consolo and I am an attorney and community activist in southern Brooklyn.
I want to raise money to provide meals and bottled water for healthcare workers at Brooklyn's Coney Island Hospital. This includes physicians, nurses, technicians, and FDNY EMS all working out of this facility.
In the past month, New York City has become the epicenter of the United States' COVID-19 pandemic. The City's hospitals have been inundated with people suffering from this illness.
As I write this on the evening of April 22, there's been nearly 140,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New York City, approximately 36,000 people hospitalized, and at least 9,500 confirmed deaths due to this horrific illness.
Why meals and bottled water?
Meals because our healthcare workers deserve a delicious, satisfying meal after the long hours and stress they've endured. Many are living on snacks and fast food right now.
Bottled water because this was specifically requested by healthcare workers, who are thirsty after working long shifts and wearing personalized protective equipment (PPE) which causes them to be uncomfortable.
The meals will be provided by Nick's Lobster House, a neighborhood restaurant in southern Brooklyn which has been staying open to prepare thousands of meals for essential workers working on the frontlines in the City and keeping their staff employed as much as possible. By donating, you are also helping to support a local small business! Each meal (one per person) will cost $6.00.
This hospital's staff has a special place in my heart because in mid-February, I was treated by these amazing healthcare workers at Coney Island Hospital's Emergency Department after becoming severely and painfully ill due to an infection. My ER physician was Mark Kindschuh, who serves as the Director of the Emergency Department. Dr. Kindschuh provided me with the most knowledgeable and compassionate medical care imaginable. Thanks to him, I was able to make a full recovery.
Since the coronavirus outbreak in NYC, these hospital workers have been working around the clock, enduring extreme stress and risking their lives to help others. Let's show them how much they are appreciated!
Any and all donations are appreciated! Thank you!
