Charles James Urrutia was born on Friday, August 5th, to Justin and Jeo Urrutia. After a quick labor and birth, Charlie had a few blissful hours of nursing and cuddles before a nurse noticed something was off. What followed was a hurricane of doctors and tests during which no one was sure little Charlie bear would live. First, he went to NICU for extra monitoring, then a flurry of doctors, nurses, specialists and technicians came and went for the next few hours as they wondered what would happen to their new baby. The fear and heartache they felt were nothing like anything they had ever experienced. They learned that he was born with a congenital heart defect, transposed greater arteries or TGA, and he was airlifted to Sutter to have a lifesaving procedure that night with open heart surgery to follow ASAP. Charlie has come through his surgeries and is doing well. We are fundraising to help cover the costs of the medical airlift, medical copays, transportation for out-of-area specialists and trips back home to see their 2-year-old son Jude.
