Raspopi's angel baby Ares
Donation protected
The Raspopi family was so excited to bring baby number three into the world. Summer went to her 20-week ultrasound with both of her children to check on their newest addition. She insisted that her husband Eldis not join since they had decided to not find out the gender. Sadly, she learned that her baby has anencephaly, and she called her husband with the devastating news.
The beautiful baby boy you see in the above picture is Ares Clark Raspopi. Anencephaly is the absence of a major portion of the brain and skull. It is heartbreaking that babies with this disorder do not survive longer than a few hours or possibly days after their birth, and they can even be stillborn.
I couldn’t word this better than Ares’ Grandmother Clark: “Some will think this makes him less than whole, but we know he is a precious and perfect little baby boy. In Greek mythology, Ares was a warrior. We feel he is OUR little stripling warrior touching our mortal lives for a short time, yet bound to us for eternity.”
Ares picked out the perfect parents for himself and the perfect siblings, Atlas and Rhea. This incredible family is experiencing unfathomable pain, and they are simultaneously inspiring so many with their faith and gratitude that comes from their knowledge of eternal families. Every day is a blessing and a hardship.
While their hearts are crushing as they carry this baby to term and as they arrange plans for his funeral, this pregnancy has been immensely difficult on Summer’s body as well. Her health is being affected while we wish she could just be feeling well as she bonds with her sweet belly in the short time that she has.
It’s not unusual for Summer to call her friends up just to ask what she can do for them that day or she won’t ask at all and will just do. The Rasposi family gives so generously and they love so fiercely. An example of their selflessness is the fact that they are planning to donate Ares’ organs if they are able. Doing this will mean less time they will have to hold their baby boy in their arms when their time is already so limited. It is important to them that they honor Ares and to help others.
Ares may not be born yet, but we already know that he likes to move and shake, and he makes his presence known. He loves to listen to music and enjoys a bowl of Fruity Pebbles with his mommy. He loves to snuggle and play with his brother and sister. He loves all people and brings everyone so much joy. He is perfect.
While they would never ask and while it will be uncomfortable for them to accept, helping Summer and Eldis with funeral costs and helping them to simply be able to take some time to grieve would certainly lighten their load so they don’t have to shift focus from this trying time to the financial aspect.
Summer and Eldis, we can’t begin to imagine how you are feeling and what you are going through. While grief presents itself in unexpected ways, we want to give you space when you need it, and we want to be there for you when you need us. We want to celebrate your sweet boy’s life with you and support you in any way we can. You are truly amazing parents and we are learning from you. When you hand your baby to his loving Father in heaven, we know you’ll find comfort in knowing that angels will be wrapped around him until you meet again. We love Ares and we love you so much.
