Lockdown Triathlon- Help Dave fight Cancer
Help us to help Dave!
In September 2020 our Cousin Dave was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer.
Dave (pictured above with his beautiful wife and two daughters) has since been fighting this disease through extensive surgery and Chemotherapy.
Dave’s story goes further than this as they tragically lost Dave’s sister Katherine to cancer just two years ago. Sadly this is no coincidence as Dave has been diagnosed with a genetic condition called Lynch Syndrome. Lynch Syndrome greatly increases your risk of getting cancer and also means he is at a 50/50 chance of passing this on to his Daughters.
Due to the nature of his surgery and the urgency needed to treat this disease, Dave has had a real rough time with his Chemotherapy and has researched his options. The best option out there and which gives Dave the very best chance of fighting this, is to have immunotherapy treatment using Nivolumab. This treatment is not available to him on the NHS and so is currently very expensive... this is where you come in!
As a family we are trying to help in any way we can and our boys Dylan, Joel and Toby set out to think of ways to raise some much needed donations. They came up with doing a Lockdown Triathlon relay, each doing a challenge that really tested them.
Dylan at 13yrs old will be aiming to run 10km. Dylan has no previous running experience but is determined to complete the distance in under 60mins and has been up running before his school day in preparation.
Joel at 11yrs old will be aiming to box for 12x3mins round on the punch bag. Joel has his amateur boxing card and his age group would normally fight 3x1min rounds. He is training hard and currently doing6x3mins hoping to get to the full professional adult Championship distance of 12x3’s.
Toby at 10yrs old will be aiming to bike 10km. Toby has never been big into bikes but last week went out and purchased one with his Christmas money to allow him to join his brothers in this challenge. He again has been getting up hours before school to train (which is a challenge in itself to Toby).
Hopefully you will agree that this is a challenging task for three young lads to take on but most of all you will see the challenge Dave has ahead in fighting this terrible disease. We appreciate it is difficult times for all but if anyone is in a position to donate or even just share the link please know we would all be more than grateful!
