My Dad, Gerald Zepeda, needs my help and I need yours. I am a twenty year old student in my third year at UC Berkeley. I am looking foward to a career in teaching or publishing but I would not be where I am today without the continuous love and support of my dad. He has been the absolute best father to me and has always supported my pursuits (attending every music recital, swim meet, high school drama production) and patiently helping me through untold hours of homework. In fact, my interest in publishing stems from his work as an editor. Many of you know my dad from Renaissance Faires, the Great Dickens Christmas Fair, his work as an editor and writer, and from his popular posts on Facebook.
Unfortunately my dad has fallen on hard times. He has not been able to secure adequate work. His ability to work full time is hampered by several health issues -- both physical and mental -- and his lack of a car. He lost his healthcare coverage and has been unable to treat his diabetes and secure sufficient psych meds. However, he is currently in the process of establishing Medi-Cal benefits. Recently he was forced to give up his home, sell and give away many of his possessions, and is essentially homeless. Various friends are providing him temporary shelter.
I am reaching out to you to help me help Dad get back on his feet. Now that his health problems are being addressed, he needs financial assistance to get his life back in order as he continues to look for more work. Together we can raise enough money for him to acquire storage for his remaining possessions, repay a number of personal loans he received from friends, pay off his debt, look for an apartment of his own, and perhaps have enough left over for a down payment on a used vehicle to expand his employment opportunities.
At first, Dad was reluctant to accept this type of assistance but I convinced him it was for the best. In the past he has helped others in similar situations and has spent hundreds of hours donating his time to charitible organizations. Please donate whatever you can to the cause.
