My name is Joy Spires and, as most of you, know my passion is people. This passion, for me, is best expressed through my career in Food & Beverage. I am the mother of six amazing children, ages 19,17,16,14,8, and 19 months. I am the, very fortunate, wife of Chris Spires. Chris and I have been together for 10 years this year and we live in Aiken, SC with our children, two dogs, and an excessive number of cats. As a family, we love game nights, eating dinners together, working together, traveling together, and building one another up.
My children and my husband are extraordinarily supportive of my exhaustive efforts in the food and beverage industry and I wouldn't be where I am in my career if I didn't have them supporting me and cheering me on every step of the way. I'm a very hard worker, I'm stubborn as heck, and I strongly believe that "everything is figure-out-able" but it definitely helps to have the reassurance that my family brings to me.
I have spent most of my career in the kitchens and dining rooms of several amazing locations throughout the CSRA (in South Carolina). I absolutely LOVE everything about the food and beverage industry. I love the people, I love the workers, I love seeing someone that NEEDS someone to help them. I love being the person that helps. I love knowing who you are by what food/drink you order. I love the "organized chaos" and the comradery that comes with a small team. I love the brutal honesty and the feedback that customers are comfortable giving me. I LOVE being able to SERVE and to make each person feel at home.
New Ellenton was our home for 5 years, and then we moved to Aiken to provide a bigger home for our (ever growing) family. But, even with this move I soon found myself trucking to New Ellenton daily, sometimes multiple times each day, for what I have considered the PERFECT job for the last several years. The New Ellenton community is just "home" for me. As this perfect job abruptly came to an end in Mid March, I found myself needing to speed up my dream of having my own place AND wanting to be with the same community that I have felt so at home with these past years. I've watched doors open and I've watched them close and I've tried to be patient and make sure that I am where I am supposed to be. Finally, I have seen each door open to make this dream a reality.
I've secured a building that will work beautifully for my New Ellenton dream and I will be working daily to make this place "our place". A lot of people have asked, Is it "Joe's"? It is not, however, if "Joe's" becomes available to me and I have the means to do so, I would take it in a heartbeat and keep my new place open as well. For my locals, most of my team members that you knew and loved will be working with me again, I can't tell you how happy this makes me!!
My building in New Ellenton is, quite literally, a blank slate. I am starting at square one. There will be minor construction, furnishings, décor, equipment, inventory, utility deposits, and start up capital needed. I have set my goal to raise $10,000 to aide me in this as I don't want to put any financial strain or undue stress on my family.
I have been very blessed with an amazing family, an amazing team and an amazing customer base. My favorite vendor, Joe Saxon, says to me "Joy, I would say do a go fund me and with the community support, possibly start a place of your own". So, Joe, here's to you and our friendship and hopefully a wonderful business relationship for years to come!!!
My husband is creating a website linked to our business Facebook and Instagram accounts so that we can keep you updated and excited through every step of our progress. The goal date to open is July 1st, but if it happens before then I will be thrilled.
Our community deserves a place that caters to the people, and my dream is to be that place.
