Hey everyone! I'm Joys daughter in law. As some of you may know, Joy recently got the diagnosis of esophageal cancer. She has a mass that is pressing on her esophagus & her trachea.

The doctors are doing lots of tests & lab work, but we know she has a tough fight ahead of her, and it's going to take time.

Joys kids are spending as much time with her as they can, and that's resulted in having to take time off work, drive to and from Ashe to take care of Leah and general home things. In addition to the gas, they are having to eat out a lot instead of being able to cook something.

After Joy kicks Cornelius (what the mass has been named) out, her treatment will take a while and she will be out of work for a bit. She will also have to go to and from Winston-Salem for appointments, and that eats up gas pretty quick.

We are reaching out to our community that loves Joy. A lot of people have asked how they can help, and this is one way (of course in addition to your prayers and kind, positive words!)

We will keep everyone updated on what's going on. We all appreciate your time and concern for such an amazing woman.

Update (4/8/2025): the doctors officially have a plan of action! Joy will be doing chemo followed by radiation. She will be getting a port placed in April 17th, and that is gonna cost quite a bit. I've upped the goal to $5,500, which is the prepay amount estimated. We appreciate everything given so far and we are grateful for everyone who has shared the fundraiser. Please continue the prayers & positivity while Joy takes on the battle ahead of her!
