To know her is to love her! Her kindness, her huge smile and her willingness to help everyone else. Now Joyce needs our help ❤️❤️❤️
After months of agony in her back things took a turn for the worse. Thursday morning Joyce was admitted to the FSJ hospital after blacking out from the immense pain she had been fighting at home. A CT scan determined that she had a bulged disc in her spine. Not long after the CT scan Joyce started to lose all feeling in her legs. The doctor then ordered a 2nd CT scan.
This 2nd scan showed that the bulge had grown tremendously and was pushing on her spinal cord and completely pinching it off. This is called a Spinal cord compression or cauda equina syndrome. Within an hour or two she was being rushed to Vancouver for emergency spinal surgery. They removed her L5 disc and the bulge so her spinal cord could breath again. She could end up staying in The Vancouver General Hospital for the next week.
She is looking at a 6-8 week recovery plus rehabilitation costs (As she has already used all of her benefits on chiropractic, physiotherapy and massage trying to heal this pain). Joyce is a single mom and the sole provider for her beautiful kids Jaelynn and Avery. Joyce will not be receiving short term disability from work. Joyce and her brother Bob will also have to pay for their own flights home when she is able to leave VGH.
It would be amazing if they were taken care of financially to ease that stress so she can rest and recover properly. We’d love to pre pay her rent and bills for a few months! Fly them both home. Then provide her with some grocery store gift cards to have groceries delivered. We’d also love to have some pre made meals delivered as she won’t be very mobile.
If you have the means to help this incredible Mom during this really difficult time she would be forever grateful!
