As some of you might know, my mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2014 at the age of 56. Looking back, she was exhibiting symptoms a couple years prior to diagnosis however we didn't know at the time what it all meant, as it was a more gradual decline than what she is experiencing now.
Unfortunately, as prevalent as dementia (in its many forms) is now a days, most likely everyone knows someone close to them who suffers from some form of this debilitating and terrifying disease.
It's very disheartening that with the many people diagnosed with some sort of cognitive decline that there aren't many options available in figuring out the "why" of each individual and virtually no information, guidance and support from those in the conventional medical field. This leaves devastated families struggling for answers and trying to do what's best for their loved one, researching on their own with whatever resources are available to them.
Our family feels we have maxed out the conventional approach and have been searching for another option. Fortunately, we have found one that is feasible and accessible and I'm very excited to get Mom started and work with a team of professionals that will tailor their treatment to Mom specifically, based on in depth testing and assessment of her own personal biology. Currently, there is no cure for dementia but I am dedicated to doing all that we can to find answers and hopefully, with that knowledge, be able to treat Mom’s symptoms the best that we can.
Mom has a very tight monthly budget and we are reaching out to family and friends in helping us achieve our goal of finding the best possible treatment for Mom. We are fortunate to live close by the California Center for Functional Medicine, which is located in the Bay Area. This option is not covered by insurance and therefore will be a stretch for Mom to achieve on her own.
100% raised will go directly to Mom's medical related expenses in getting seen, extensive lab work, follow up appointments, supplements and medication, and anything else that might be connected to her diagnosis and medical care. Any additional funds will be held in an account for her to be used for care as the disease progresses.
