In the early morning hours on Monday, September 28th, the Glass Fire raced through the hills of Calistoga threatening many homes, resorts and wineries. While our tenant Joy and her cat Archer were safely evacuated and staying with a friend downtown, hope diminished as she was evacuated once again as the fires moved toward town. Later that day we learned the fate of our beautiful neighborhood. All the homes burned to the ground, everything gone. Joy had lived on the property for 36 years and didn't grab much as she left, leaving behind many valuables and sentimental items including a lifetime of photos. She is remaining positive through all of this and seems more worried about the fate of all the wildlife she has observed over the years, including the resident raven, "Edgar" . My heart is breaking for her, and although we have lost our cabin as well, I desperately want to help her any way I can. While she did have renter's insurance, it is nowhere near enough to replace all the items she will need to make a new start. She is currently in a hotel and is unable to store any donated items. At this time, the most effective way to help her is cash or gift cards. Thank you to all that have asked me if I need anything. Being able to help Joy get back on her feet is what I need right now the most.
