Joy Jones Breast Cancer Fund

Donation protected

Hello - I’m Kimberlyn, and my mom, Joy Jones, was recently diagnosed with Stage III-B Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (breast cancer). The news of her diagnoses has hit us very hard as we consider the multiple outcomes but continue to hope for the best.

Joy lives in Brownsville, Texas and has worked for BISD for 30 years. She has proudly taught the students at Hanna High School since 2003, and has received countless “Golden Wings” awards from her students for her outstanding dedication to making a difference in the life of each and every student. Most recently, Ms. Jones was granted the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award for excellence in teaching and for the encouragement of and dedication to the academic success of the students of Homer Hanna High School. She technically teaches English, but any of her students (including myself) can tell you that her class is more than a subject; it’s an opportunity to achieve success that once seemed unattainable.

My mom is currently being treated at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While we know she is in the best care possible, there has been a financial burden to not only cover medical bills but also costs for travel and lodging.

Having recently been diagnosed in May of 2021, the consultations and tests have already added up to over $4,000 out of pocket (after insurance) in medical expenses alone. We fully anticipate these costs to continue as Joy begins her chemotherapy treatments on July 1, 2021.

Her current treatment plan consists of 24 weeks (6 months) of chemotherapy followed by a mastectomy, then 6 weeks of radiation to follow, in addition to rehabilitation. All-in-all, best case scenario, we are looking at a year of weekly doctor visits and treatments.

We humbly ask for any donations to help ease the financial stress as she fights to beat her breast cancer. All donations will go directly to Joy to assist with travel costs from Brownsville to Houston, hotel costs, and all out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Thank you all for your continued support, thoughts and prayers, and kind words. I know my mother’s strength is a direct result of our collective efforts to lift her up through this tough battle.

“Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts.”
