My name is Jill Kathryn Turuy—yup, my given birth name is Jill Kathryn Tabor. I am the mother of a special needs adult daughter with Williams Syndrome. Her name is Anabel Kathryn Gutierrez. We are originally from New Iberia, Louisiana. We moved to California to get better medical care, long-term support, and guidance. Williams Syndrome is included in the National Organization of Rare Diseases (a.k.a NORD). It has always been hard to get the proper care that she needs and deserves. California is a state where becoming more self-reliant is possible. This year she will be 25 and I will be 52. There have been so many ups and downs during these last 24 years. They have all been worth it. I see Anabel trying her best to understand the world around her. She now realizes that stable, secure, and long-term housing is a basic necessity in life. She needs constant supervision and her health issues are increasing. She sees beauty in everyone that she meets regardless of race, gender, or economic differences. She only sees them as a flower. When meeting new people, she has a method which goes like this:
1. Compliments an aspect she admires in them
2. Asks their name
3. Tells them her name
4. Says how nice it is to meet them
5. Gives a good old-fashioned handshake
6. Asks what their favorite color is and how their family is doing
We have found an apartment in a safe and quiet area which she has fallen in love with. I am asking for financial help to cover only the initial costs of the deposits required for her to rent the apartment she can call home. We are currently living in a motel where we pay weekly, but it is not where she wants to be. If possible, please help us gather the initial money needed for deposits and entrance fees. She will feel such joy in knowing that people care. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about her!
