We are a non-governmental organization called Corporación Casa de la Memoria Quipu Huasi, located in Neiva, Colombia. One of our three main areas of work is the participation of youth which includes working with an informal school for children in the rural and most vulnerable areas in Neiva. The idea of this project is to keep the kids away from the streets and criminality and to offer them a better path in life.
During this time of the year, it's important to raise awareness of the families with children from the poorest neighborhoods. Christmas is one of the most important times of the year for children. Spending time with family, celebrating, eating and the excitement of getting presents. Regrettably, the holiday season can be a difficult time of year for anyone, especially those who are in need. The stress of the season mixed with financial woes can cause a lot of anxiety and grief. There are a lot of kids whose parents don't have the possibility to give their children gifts and also a lot of kids spending the Christmas without parents.
Our wish for this initiative is to spread love and give Christmas presents for kids, that normally do not get the chance to have gifts at Christmas. We believe that Christmas is about sharing and caring and that's why we are currently seeking donations. We want to motivate the worth of solidarity and bring good and try to spread awareness that Christmas should be a happy and joyful time for the kids with fewer resources. Your donation will have a big impact on these children’s lives.
The project ColombiaSur, Peace culture in violent times, is a project supported by the Ministry of Culture, National program of Cultural Concertation. We're working with the processes of memory reconstruction of the children from two areas which are Brisas del Río, Nueva Esperanza and Falla Bernal in the city of Neiva, Colombia.
We started to hold workshops in July, where through the strategies and methodologies proposed, the young people had a process of self-recognition, in which they began to consider new ways of expressing their thoughts, opportunities, conflicts, fears, strengths, which were shaped little by little in concrete ideas, texts through which they teach us their common places, their thoughts on the environment their living in, the care of the river, their homes...
Stories that were later compiled in the book Jóvenes, Memoria y Sur realidades II.
This time of the year is very special and a time for sharing with less fortunate people. You can now take this as an opportunity to donate for a good cause and help the children to have a Merry Christmas. The most important part of the donation is not the amount but spreading Christmas cheer and make people happy. By providing even a small donation, you can be part of something beautiful and make a kid smile!
