Jovany Rios needs our help! On May 17th as Jovany was heading back home from work, he was hit by a car on highway 92 in Half Moon Bay. He was in the ICU for 3 and a half days. Jovany is still in the hospital now (May 23rd).

Jovany was a long time Puente de la Costa Sur employee who decided to take a break from the non-profit work to explore working as an artist. Jovany’s dreams were to continue working on his art but he needed money to purchase his art supplies. He decided to work as a farm/nursery worker alongside his mom to learn about the hard-work she and other farmworkers do. Jovany told his mom he would save enough money to continue his goal of becoming an even better artist than he already is.

Jovany had no health insurance at the time of the accident. Puente is assisting Jovany with medical insurance enrollment but it is unclear yet if he will qualify. His car was surrendered to the tow company as it was a total loss. We don’t know yet how much the car insurance will cover. Our family (brother, mom and dad) are all missing work to beside him.

Jovany is improving day by day. He is out of the ICU and he has been eating, talking, walking and has even been working on some art. We are hopeful he will get to come home soon.

The Go Fund Me funds will be used to purchase Jovany a new vehicle and if any funds are left they will be used for Jovany’s art supplies.
