In Memory of Jovani D. Colón
Donation protected
My name is Juli Colón, and I created this in hopes of receiving aid in laying my brother, Jovani Damien Colón, to rest. He unexpectedly passed away on the morning of July 24th, 2023. He was 31 years old. I speak on behalf of my family who wish to see his life justly honored.
We are asking for $10,000, all of which will go to funeral services, and as donations to the civil services my brother relied on.
My brothers and I come together now to ensure Jovani will not be forgotten. We raise him up in our hearts and seek to see that his triumphs and struggles are seen and that the echo of his time here on Earth is heard long after he left it. Any donations that exceed the total cost of the funeral services are dedicated to the organizations that helped Jovani throughout his life.
Jovani was a complex person. He was passionate about what he loved and threw himself into music to cope with a world that didn’t fully understand his plight. Born with degenerative hearing loss, he was a Puerto Rican & Cuban young man struggling to get a solid grasp on life. He grappled with mental health struggles, relying on his family and faith to carry him through.
Jovani was also a man who would fiercely defend someone he loved, who would act ridiculous to make you laugh, and who could spit a freestyle that came from somewhere so deep inside his words would etch into your mind. He is gone all too soon, and our sorrow for that loss will be felt forever.
I want to look at this mash of human steps and missteps when I remember Jovani, my big brother. All of him, the good parts and the rough ones, so that he can rest knowing his family saw him and will always carry his love through our lives.
We pledge to proceed with transparency in our dedication to recognize the hurdles he overcame and to celebrate his life through charity for his communities. You can read his obituary here , and we sincerely thank you for taking the time to read Jovani’s story.
