Greetings Friends, Family & Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated,
I wanted to share one of my childhood dreams with you; My name is Deja, and when I grow up I desire to become bilingual, help young minorities become visionaries and change agents (of course at five that wasn't said the same).
Fast forwarding to today, in my 25th year of life, a second year Graduate student at Webster University, and an Alumnae of Alabama A&M University, I have received the opportunity to study abroad in Spain. Amazing how God works right?!
As an adolescent I was always that "cheerleader" friend that wanted to see everyone prosper. With that same attitude today and with the hopes to see so many young minorities thrive, I would love to be able to become more relatable to minoroty cultures other than my own.
This assest will allow me to increase awareness, community involvement and educational sustainability among the African American and Hispanic Cultures.
Within the past two years, I have discovered my passion to want to work with teens and young adults. Being able to communicate in two different languages will not only allow me to communicate more efficiently, but it will also allow me to serve a wider range of underserved communities and youth.
With that being sad, I am asking for you all to help step out on Faith, and take this opportunity that has been placed before me. I will be spending a total of 5 weeks in Oviedo, Spain at the University of Oveido from Mid May until the end of June. I have a total of 5 weeks to prepare for my departure. I appreciate you all's support as I strive to reach one of my goals! Thanks in advance!
