Get to Know Me

My name is Barry E. Knighton, MSW and I am a native of the South Carolina Lowcountry, being reared in the cities of Hardeeville and Charleston. I graduated from Abundant Life Academy in Hardeeville, SC. In addition, I graduated from the University of South Carolina, receiving both a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with an emphasis in Secondary Education and a Master's Degree in Social Work. Currently, I am working on a Doctor of Education in Education, Policy, Organization, and Leadership with a concentration in Human Resource Development at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In addition, I am a social worker with the State of South Carolina.

About My Trip

Bishop TD Jakes said, “If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.” If you know me, my passion is always community outreach and international humanitarian mission projects! I love social work, people, outreach, and changing lives for the better! But, most importantly, I love Africa! So, from September 1, 2022 – September 10, 2022, I have been invited back to Ghana for my fourth humanitarian, social work project, which includes:

• Leadership development training for schoolteachers

• Educational literacy development for school children
