Hello everyone,
I am starting this GoFundMe campaign on behalf of the Vanuatu National Women's Cricket Team which I am proudly part of.
The Republic of Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific approximately 1,750 km east of Australia and 500 km north-east of New Caledonia.
The Vanuatu National Women's Cricket team is of course the team that represents Vanuatu in International cricket tournaments, especially in the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) region, and it is affiliated under the Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA), an Associate member country of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The team is made up of over 20 talented girls in the national pre-squad (over 500 girls playing club cricket at all levels) with 14 girls selected each tournament to represent the country in the final team. Cricket is a rapidly growing sport in Vanuatu and it is the leading sport in the country in terms of organizational structure, running and development. Our National Women's team are ranked 35th in the world and 3rd in the EAP region.
The team is trying to raise funds to support their Pacific Games campaign after not making the list of sport teams the Vanuatu Government and VASANOC (Vanuatu Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee) will be supporting and sending to the games. That means that the VCA will have to cover all the costs for the women’s team to go which is an excessive 30,000 AUD and with only 3 months left before the Games, we are desperate to raise funds and we need support.
With women's cricket only around in Vanuatu for about 8 years (since 2012), there has been significant improvement in the last 3 years and we are looking to continue this growth.
In order to gain more experience and exposure to play more international cricket, our women's team would need to participate in any international tournaments they can and this year has given us the opportunity to be able to do that with the EAP World Cup Qualifier in May (hosted by Vanuatu) and the Pacific Games in July.
However, we are kindly asking for your donations to support the team participating at the Pacific Games because it will be at our own cost and the amount is needed by mid May to confirm the team's participation.
We want everyone to understand that we pride ourselves in all our national teams and we want to see them at the games but we need financial support to be able to send the women's team.
We would also like to prove and show other women that being told NO should never be the reason we quit and the entire team are fighting and doing their best to ensure that we secure our place at the Pacific Games. Sports is for all and there should never be inequality in sport so we are committed to working twice as hard to empower the girls on our team and other women as well that there is success and value for women in sport.
Your donations will provide another opportunity to empower girls in Vanuatu to continue with sports and to show that sport is not about your gender but it is all about your Talent and Passion.
Thank you for your support. Your support will give 14 girls the opportunity to open more pathways through cricket/sport for thousands of other girls and women in Vanuatu.
