Hi, my name is Ainsley Hooker. I’m a wife, a mum of two, and a para-athlete.
I’m fundraising to help cover the costs of getting my husband to the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland as my support person. His support is essential so I can compete safely and at my best.
After a military injury, I became a below-knee amputee six years ago. Before my amputation, I lived with chronic pain and disfigurement for years, and I never imagined my life could hold purpose again.
Through Invictus Australia and the ADF Sports Cell, I was introduced to adaptive sport. They gave me the courage to try new things and helped me learn how my long-time love of athletics could be adapted to my new body. That support became a turning point for both my mental health and my physical wellbeing.
Three years after returning to competition, I made my debut at the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023. From there I wanted more. I trained harder, kept showing up, and continued my athletic journey.
Now I’ve been selected to compete at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow — in Seated Shot Put (F57) — a goal I once believed was impossible.
Like many para-athletes, this journey is largely self-funded. On a veteran pension, the costs of international competition add up quickly — especially when a support person is required. Every donation — no matter the amount — will go toward the travel and associated costs for my husband in his role as my support person, so I can get to Glasgow and represent Australia at my very best.
Your donation will help cover my husband’s costs as my support person:
Flights and ground transport
Accommodation and meals
Accreditation/competition-related costs (where applicable)
Any additional expenses required to support me during training and competition
I dream of the day I can secure sponsors to cover these essential support costs, but for now, you’re my sponsors. Thank you for believing in me, sharing this page, and helping make this opportunity possible.
