Hello friends and family,
I’m writing to you today to share something a little unusual, but very exciting and to invite your support in this next season.
I was recently invited to try out for Team USA Handball presenting the opportunity of making it to the 2028 Olympics. For the next stage in the process, I’ve been welcomed to participate in a six month residency program in Florida where we will train full-time to continue forward in national team selection.
I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to attend the residency, but it does present some logistical challenges. Unfortunately, USA handball doesn’t receive funding from the U.S. Olympic Committee which means all training, housing, and travel expenses are self-funded.
During that time, I’ll be covering my current rent, additional housing in Florida, and relocating a mobile business where I will be starting over with my client list. Additionally, national team players are asked to attend training camps and competitions in Europe during this period as many teammates are based overseas or hold dual citizenship. These international camps bring significant travel expenses that are also fully self-funded. It’s a lot to juggle, but it’s an opportunity that feels worth pursuing with everything I have.
Sports have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve had the opportunity to play basketball at Rice University and professionally around Europe/Australia and those experiences shaped so much of who I am. But for any athlete, the Olympics represent the absolute highest level of competition and honor. The chance to pursue that, even for a moment, is something I don’t take lightly.
More than anything, I would be incredibly honored to represent my hometown of San Antonio, Texas, Rice University, the United States, and my family on an international stage. I’m also deeply aware that there’s no logical path that gets me here on my own and this is entirely an example of the miraculous ways God works. I wouldn’t be in this position without Him and I see that in every turn of this journey.
I would like to humbly put it before you that if in any way you would like to help along this journey, I’ve created this GoFundMe and truly any amount of support makes a difference.
Thank you so much for reading, cheering me on, and for your support through the years. I’m incredibly grateful for the encouragement and the soooo so many prayers.
With appreciation,
Jessica
