This is Julian Rose’s story about a “Journey Home.” Julian is a trans-masculine artist, musician, and professional cook. They are undergoing top surgery at the end of April. While the initial surgery is covered, Julian will be recovering for two months post-surgery. This is necessary because their work is physically demanding, and top surgery comes with restrictions on lifting, arm movement, and the need for rest and recovery. During this time, Julian needs help to cover the costs of rent, bills, food, additional medical costs incurred post-surgery, medical supplies, and travel to and from NYC for post-operative appointments.
It’s been humbling for Julian to ask for help with daily tasks from friends during recovery, and the positive response has already been moving. Getting to this point in their life and transition has taken an incredible amount of work, courage, and faith. Since childhood, Julian knew they were masculine—even changing their name in kindergarten, though it was not well received. This began a long journey of learning to cope, compartmentalize, and mask their true self. As an adult, Julian has lived in many wonderful places and met people who helped them find their light again, slowly peeling away the layers of masking. With tenacity, courage, and vulnerability, Julian now stands at the precipice of a place they never believed existed as a child.
We are here to humbly ask for your help on Julian's behalf. Any amount will help them immensely while they heal and prepare for this next brilliant, beautiful chapter of life.
With love and support, their friends, colleagues, mates and loved ones. Welcome Home!
