Journalist furlough fund

We are a group of journalists who created a furlough fund for the many, many other journalists who have been temporarily laid off or had their hours reduced across the U.S.  amid the COVID-19 pandemic. We first started this as a small fundraiser but our total tripled in just one day. It's been incredible to witness.

This funding is not intended to make up for a journalists' entire financial loss, but to provide a few hundred dollars that may help them in the next month with rent, bills and equipment.

Paige Cornwell, a reporter in Seattle, Wash., will be responsible for withdrawing and distributing the funds to journalists who submitted a financial assistance form. After we reach our fundraising goal we will distribute a list of journalists who received help (by location, so no specific identifying information), how much they received and a brief explanation of why they need financial assistance. The recipient will have money sent through their platform of choice (Venmo, bank transfer, etc.)

Are you a journalist in need of financial assistance? Let us know here:

We're organizing this fund on behalf of ourselves, not our employers.
