On Tuesday, April 12th my sister's husband, Daniel, dropped his girls off at the babysitter's house to be taken to school. When he didn't follow them inside, they came out to check on him and found him on the ground. He had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and was rushed to the emergency room in an ambulance.
That was the beginning of what is going to be a long, hard road for this loving family. Intensive physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy for Daniel (who is almost completely paralyzed on his left side). New caregiving responsibilities, head-of-household financial worries, and complete responsibilities for the home and children for Audrey. And with stroke recovery, nothing happens quickly or easily.
My sister Audrey, a teacher in Arizona, has been an amazing caregiver and advocate for her husband and I am awe-struck with how she is handling the pressure of this new reality. Their daughters miss their daddy and ask when he'll be home...I wish we could tell them soon. Ellora is almost 11 and in 5th Grade. Robyn is almost eight and in 2nd grade.
If Daniel or Audrey have touched your lives in some way, or if their story moves you, we would appreciate any help in getting them back up on their feet. Even a small donation will let them know they are loved and that we are all here to support them.
No one wants to have a GoFundMe account set up for them, but this will hopefully help ease some of the stress of this traumatic event and let them all know that we are all thinking of them during this difficult time.
Thank you.
