This is an urgent fundraiser to support Jossellyne's family in paying for housing and immediate life needs. Thanks for considering supporting.
Josellyne is a beautiful, vibrant 1st grader at Nystrom Elementary in Richmond, CA. Her mother Evelyn, is resilient and deeply committed to her daughter and her four other kids ranging in age from 1 1/2 to 13 years old. They are currently homeless and Josellyne is hospitalized at Children's Hospital in Oakland.
Josellyne has rapidly growing Leukemia and has been hospitalized since April 19th. Josellyne and the family have been through so much in the last year. One year ago her father, a hard working man, originally from El Salvador, was deported to Mexico. He tried to reunite with his family only to be deported again. This has left Evelyn and the family traumatized. Evelyn, previously a stay at home mom, now had a six month old and four other kids to take care of. She had to bring roommates in the apartment to be able and make rent each month. This past January the landlord raised rent by 200 dollars in a matter of six weeks and when Evelyn couldn't pay he evicted her and her children. Since January they have lived in two homeless shelters and during this time Josselyne started to have a significantly reduced appetite and getting weaker by the day. Evelyn took Jocellyne to two hospitals to get a diagnoses and both said that it was probably just an infection. However, On April 19th, Josselyne collapsed in her mothers arms. Evelyn took her to emergency in Martinez, where they quickly did blood work and saw her white blood cells were at a dangerously low level and her actual blood level was also dangerously low (the doctors say it's a miracle she survived).
Josselyne is currently receiving chemo treatment every several days and is going to at least have one year of treatment if not more. Due to being homeless, Children's Hospital will not let her be discharged until the family has housing. They believe that she will be healthy enough to do outpatient treatment within a few weeks, but if they don't have a house they will not allow her to leave. This means that the mom can't be with her other kids and Josselyne can't fully have her own space to heal.
PLEASE HELP BY DONATING WHAT YOU CAN! ALL FUNDS WILL PAY FOR HOUSING, FOOD, and OTHER MAJOR LIFE NECESSITIES!
