My name is Breena Bonifay and I’m our sweet Josie’s aunt. On Tuesday July 1st, 2025 Josie’s mother Lacey Bonifay woke up to a tragic and terrifying situation of her babygirl with blood everywhere. Lacey quickly realized that Josie had been throwing up a significant amount of blood which made Josey unresponsive and barely breathing. Lacey called 911 and while waiting for an ambulance to arrive, a close family member that was there at the time helped Lacey stay calm and do CPR on Josie. When at the Andalusia hospital, Lacey was quickly informed that Josie was gonna have to be life flighted to Sacred Heart in Pensacola. Whenever they arrived they immediately had to give Josie a blood transfusion which went very well and after that she was awake breathing on her own and was coherent and responsive. We knew Josie was bleeding internally somewhere but didn’t know exactly where at. With Josie having a previous surgery in Birmingham , Pensacola told us that they were going to be Life flighting her once again to Birmingham this time. Josie had to have another blood transfusion once she was there. A scope was placed in her body to try and find where the blood was coming from and found out that she had a blood clot in her main artery and was bleeding at the bottom of her esophagus. They attempted to band it but unfortunately it didn’t work. Our sweet girl is currently on a ventilator and unable to breathe on her own due to her oxygen levels being low from so much blood loss. Lacey works at the dollar general in Florala. Since this tragic incident Lacey is not able to be at work. Anyone that knows this family also knows that they have also been struggling with transportation back and forth to appointments and or work. Lacey had been saving money to be able to get her and her babygirl a good running vehicle. With everything going on Lacey now has to worry with medical bills, future medical procedures as well as transportation costs back and forth from her home in Florala to Birmingham. She’s unable to afford taking care of herself at the moment as far as making sure she eats anything or being able to shower and change into fresh clothes and get some rest. We know that part of being a mother and making sure Josie is taken care of is also making sure you take care of yourself. From both sides of the family and close friends we are supporting Lacey and Josie through all of this. Several people have asked if there is anything they could do to help, aside of all the amazing prayers Lacey agreed that making this would be okay. We are asking for continuous prayers over Josie knowing that our god makes miracles happen everyday. Lacey and this family will be grateful for any donation made even if it’s $1 .
