Help Josh Zacks back on his feet

November 2 has always been one of the worst days in my adult life. It was the day that my father,
Norman Zacks died, 35 years ago. November 2, 1980
When I awoke on Monday, November 2, 2015 I was very sad. As I remembered my father, I said a short prayer and began my day.
A few hours into the day I reveived an alarming call from my son Jeff. there had been a terrible accident. Josh was hurt and they were on the way to the Hospital.
This was not a time for questions. As I raced to the hospital ER, I prayed silently for my son. I had an impending sense that this was going to be very tragic.
Upon my arrival at the ER I was greeted by the patient advocate. Although I begged to see my son, she said she first had to explain what had happened.
After falling appx 40 ft down an open elevator shaft Josh was finally rescued by a team of workers from the Fire Department and EMS. It took 12 people to extract Josh from the bottom of the elevator shaft. He was then transported to the Hospital Trauma unit.
Miraculously Josh survived the fall, and I truly believe that exactly 35 years after he died, my father was there at the bottom of that elevator pit on November 2 , 2015 to help catch Josh and save his grandsons life...........
Life became very complicated. I met with the Trauma team, the Neuro team, the Orthopedic team and the Rehab team. They explained the nature of his injuries and that he would be in the ICU. He had multiple breaks in his spine, a broken right heel and numerous other injuries. He was in critical condition.
They all were amazed that Josh had survived the fall. Everyone said it was miraculous to have fallen straight down 40 ft in an elevator shaft and still be alive.
As I approached my son Josh in the bed, I was amazed because he looked ok. The staff then explained that the damage was on the inside. It was devestating to see your child laying there with more than six physicians and nurses trying to assess all of his injuries.
With a fractured pelvis, (3) broken bones in his spine ,and multiple broken bones in his right foot he is facing a long recovery process that will entail extensive physical rehabilitation. His next surgeries are uncertain. His right foot is too swollen now to operate. They are fitting him with a special torso brace so they dont have to operate on his spine immediately. They will assess his progress in a few weeks and hopefully he may not need the spine operation to insert pins etc.
Josh will hopefully be dishcarged from the hospital to begin his jouney to recovery. We are not certain when the other operations will be scheduled.
The staff has explained to our family that his recuperatiom will be a long and arduous process.
We hope and pray for a positive outcome
He will not be working for the foreseeable future, but as we all know the responsibility to pay your bills never stops.
Our family is commited to help Josh financially in every way that we can.
Josh's brother Jeff is constantly at his side, both day and night. He is totally commited to Josh, sleeping at the hospital in a lounge chair all night long, every night. He has to make sure his baby brother is never alone.......
Your prayers and well wishes are greatly appreciated.
If anyone feels that they would like to contribute , we have set up this page for that purpose.
PLEASE PRAY FOR JOSH !
Thank You ,
Michael Zacks
