Joshua Wittenberg's Cancer Treatment and Recovery
You know those people in your life that just for whatever reason can't catch a break? I'm not going to beat around the bush here. Joshua is that guy. That guy who for years has tried to push to be better in any way he can, and hits these road blocks that seem to be simply unfair. Culminating now in the latest one. The big C word you never want to hear. Cancer.
Joshua grew up in Southern California, playing in bands and making friends. He smoke, he drank, he lived the rock star life. He, like many people that lived that life became addicted to alcohol. In his times of struggle he has gotten clean a few times. Each time with great success, for a time. He was able to grow, refresh, and stretch himself to be better. But with every stage of growth, there has been stages of despair. Getting clean, only to fall. Or, more severe, getting clean, only to discover your best friends body after he committed suicide. This intense tragedy, that affected many people, affected Joshua very bitterly. In these bouts of drinking, he burned bridges, he made mistakes, like we all do. But he didn't do them with a clear mind.
Its this part of Joshuas story that is important. Because it is this part of his story that makes it hard to give him anything. But it is also this part of his story that deserves forgiveness.
The clean Joshua I know is so kind, he holds in his heart the cares of everyone around him. The Joshua I know is always there to listen when you need a friend. The Joshua I know is sweet and funny and so talented. The Joshua I know needs help, and I want to do anything I can for him.
In the last bout of being clean, and doing so well. Was when we found out he had Cancer. At first doctors thought he might have Lung Cancer, he spent 2 weeks in a hospital in San Diego, getting clean and seeing 3 different specialists. He had an intense throat infection that needed to be cleaned out before they could fully figure out what was going on. After some checks, and most of the infection being clear, his dad took him out to Austin to Ascention Septon Northwest Hospital. His dad wanted him to be around family during this difficult time. Not long after arriving there Joshua entered a 10 day coma that he only recently came out of. During this time the doctors were able to confirm that he had Pancreatic Cancer.
Joshua, like many of us in the industry has been left without much this year. Not having a stable Job prior to Covid, he didn't have much unemployment to fall back on. Part of his getting clean method was to sell records online, which though it did help him make money and afford to live, it didn't do much to give him a savings account to tap into when the worst hit. With the long hospital stays while in a coma, the bills have started to come in. As Joshua isn't a Texas resident, the hospital has been unwilling to offer any forms of financial assistance, and as Joshua has no insurance, there has been absolutely no alleviation for his bills.
Asking for help, is not a strong suit of Joshuas, so getting to the point of letting me make this for him was a big deal.
We appreciate whatever you can give to help.
