Please help Dr Joshua McCarroll’s family with expenses

Hi my name is Errin and I’m fundraising on behalf of my late brother-in-law Dr Joshua McCarroll and his wife Professor Phoebe Phillips.
While both have dedicated their lives to researching and fighting cancer, Josh’s life’s work hit much closer to home. As a survivor of childhood cancer, Josh understood better than most the importance of finding new cures and treatments for this most devastating of childhood diseases. He worked tirelessly to develop tiny ‘nano-vehicles’ that packaged and delivered therapeutic drugs to cancer cells in solid tumours such as neuroblastoma and brain cancer. Through penetrating tumours and delivering a high drug dose to cancer cells while minimising the exposure of healthy cells, it is the hope that treatment with these nanoparticles can inhibit tumour growth while reducing unwanted side effects.
While he survived childhood cancer at 14, unfortunately two years ago at the age of 50, he received a devastating diagnosis of multiple tumours on the liver followed by a further diagnosis of peritoneal cancer. His father Dennis was also diagnosed with cancer at this time and Josh still managed to be by his side until the end all the while fighting his own battle.
Josh’s amazing wife Phoebe worked relentlessly to make sure he had every opportunity possible to fight for as long as he could. From multiple specialists to various immunotherapy treatments we managed to have him with us for a year and a half longer than the time frame he was given. Unfortunately, Josh deteriorated rapidly over the last six months and Phoebe had to give up work to become his full time carer.
On the evening of Tuesday 13th May 2025, sadly Josh passed away into eternity surrounded by his beautiful wife and loved ones. He was an incredibly gentle and loving man and he leaves behind a legacy of unfathomable fighting spirit and service to others. The funds raised will also ensure we can give back to both Josh’s memory and Phoebe’s unwavering love and dedication without having to worry about any expenses.
Joshua and Phoebe have given so much to cancer research and humanity as a whole; so let us all please give back to them as much as we can.
