Hey there, my name is Joshua Fayoyin and I’m due to start my ATPL (flight school training) on 8th December at Skyborne Airline Academy. I’m super excited and cannot wait to start as I’ve wanted to be a commercial pilot all my life. Now that I’m so close to starting it feels so surreal.

How It Started

Everything I’ve done has led me to this point now. Naturally, I was drawn to aviation & aeroplanes from when I was a small child. I would download plane games on my tablet and watch television programmes and movies about aviation, but nothing could quite fuel my curiosity not even when I would go flying in real life!

As I grew up, I would study – in my spare time – things like how planes stay in the sky and other rudimentary questions about flying. I would read aviation books and visit transport museums as I wanted to learn all I could about how aircraft came to be and how they’ve developed over time. It also meant that I was building a platform of knowledge that I could share with others.

Eventually, when I was old enough, I convinced my parents to finally let me go glider flying. This was a brilliant, fun yet also crucial experience as it let me taste what flying was really like, for myself, for the first time. This only made me more enthusiastic and motivated in my pursuit of aviation. Additionally, this personal experience also gave me something else that I could share – with anyone that was interested.

During the covid period, after working hard, I got myself my own home flight simulator. The benefits of this were not just a cool new toy to play with or something new to do in my free time. It exposed me to a community of people that also deeply shared my passion. Many of these people were real life pilots that had insights that they could share with others. This is something that given the opportunity, I also hope to do.

The Path Ahead

Getting into flight school is not an easy process. However, thanks to the experiences of others, who were open and public with their experience going through the brutal selection process, I was able implement lessons learnt to my advantage and was thankfully accepted into Skyborne to start on 8th December.

After being accepted into Skyborne I noticed that there wasn’t quite as much informative content of life at flight school from the perspective of a current flight school student. I plan to share my journey on social media to enable other aspiring pilots to have an insight of what a flight school is really like from a flight students’ point of view.
