Joshua & Corretta Bishop Hardship
Hello everyone. We are Joshua and Corretta Bishop. Everyone that knows us know that we are very private people. We have a hard time asking for help from others, so the fact that we are going public with our situation says a lot.
As many of our friends and family are aware, Corretta has been diagnosed with a debilitating medical issue that has made it nearly impossible some days for her to move. She has been fighting it for a while, but it has gotten worse in the past 6 months and has cost Corretta her full-time job as an electrical technician and assembly specialist due to low productivity and risk of injury. In addition, she had to apply for disability at the behest of her medical providers.
As a result, we have to file for bankruptcy because we are not able to pay many of the bills that we had due to the loss of income. The only things we are trying to keep are our home and our vehicle. As of November 15th, we are 3 months behind on our mortgage. U. S. Bank, our mortgage holder, has informed us that we have to pay $1,450.82 by December 8th to avoid going into foreclosure.
The bankruptcy needs to be paid off and filed by December 14th to avoid garnishment by Springleaf for a vehicle we purchased from Morris Motors in Poplar Bluff, MO. Six months after purchasing the vehicle, the engine went out and we replaced it out-of-pocket because warranty was expired. Three months after replacing the engine, the transmission went out. The vehicle has been parked since February as we cannot afford to fix a 2nd major issue, in addition to being told that there were other mechanical issues with the vehicle. The financer, Springleaf, nor the seller, Morris Motors, were willing to work with us on a solution. So we had to purchase a new vehicle in order for us to get to and from work. We still owe a balance of $1200.00 on the bankruptcy, which is being handled by the Jewel Law Firm of Cape Girardeau, MO. Therefore, our immediate need is $2700.00 to get caught up on our mortgage and filed for the bankruptcy.
Finally, with Corretta not being able to work, we are not sure what the future will hold. We are praying that we will be able to maintain our basic needs such as utilities and groceries. With winter approaching, we have seen a rise in our utility bills, as we are sure others have seen as well. Therefore, any donations we receive will be greatly appreciated. This is very hard for us as we are firm believers in maintaining our own. But, we are also firm believers in helping others who are in need when we have had the ability to do so. Thank you for taking the time to read our situation and circumstances and thank you in advance for your prayers and donations.
