Josh's Second Wind; Lung Transplant

Donation protected
At just 3 months old Josh was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections. Josh has two copies of the delta f508 mutation. This serious disease can be life threatening and as the disease progresses, the lung function decreases. When the lung function decreases the need for a lung transplantation increases.

Due to Josh's condition worsening his pulmonologist said it was time to start the process of preparing for a double lung transplant. All of his life he knew the conversation would eventually happen, but it was still difficult to hear. He is being worked up for a double lung transplant at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, Ohio). Josh resides in Massachusetts with his wife/family. His next appointment in Cleveland is in April and it will determine if he will be listed soon. The appointments in Cleveland are physically and financially demanding. Josh and his wife go there every 3 months to follow up with pre-testing. This will be their third time in Cleveland. The first appointment was in October 2016 and Josh celebrated his one year wedding anniversary at the Cleveland Clinic.

Due to Josh having a certain bacteria in his lungs, he can only be transplanted in Cleveland.

All funds will go directly to Josh's care (med flight to Cleveland once he gets the call for surgery *$8,500 for the transport*,  costs that will arise post transplant (lodging, food and basic essentials due to relocation). Josh and his wife Jacquie will have to live in Cleveland for roughly 3 months after the transplant so his doctors and care team can closely monitor him once he is outpatient. After tranpsplant he will be on multiple immunosuppressants to decrease the risk of his body rejecting the new lungs. It's imperative for us to be near his doctors should rejection happen.

The medical staff in Cleveland prepared us to raise the funds ahead of time so when we get "the call" we are fully prepared for what's ahead & can focus soley on his recovery.

Thank you so very much! We are so incredibly blessed and thankful for your love & support.

Love,

Josh & Jacquie aka "J&J"
